Michelle Wie had to wait for 81 tournaments to record her first win as a professional, and the American is hoping some of the same kind of magic re-emerges at the Dubai Ladies Masters this week.

The world number 12 is the star attraction of the 500,000-euro season-ending tournament of the Ladies European Tour, which also features reigning Major champions Anna Nordqvist of Sweden (LPGA Championship) and Scotland's Catriona Matthew (Women's British Open).

Wie, winner of Lorena Ochoa Invitational on the LPGA Tour last month, will be making her Middle East debut at the tournament, which is being played at the Majlis course of Emirates Golf Club from December 9-12.

Speaking to the media on the eve of the tournament, the Hawaiian said: "The win (in Mexico) was amazing and made me realise how much more I wanted to do it and it just motivates me to try and do better.

"It was such a great feeling that you just kind of want to do it over and over again.

"I'm just going to try my hardest this week and see what happens. Obviously, it my first goal to win, but I can't really control all of it. What I can control is how hard I try and what I can do."

Wie had to pull out of the LPGA Tour Championship with an ankle injury a week after her maiden triumph, but she assured her fans that all was well with her.

"I have only played nine holes up until now, but it (the ankle) feels good. I went to the doctors and it's getting a lot better," she said.

Wie will have her task cut out as a quality field has gathered for the fourth edition of the Dubai Ladies Masters, won by the legendary Annika Sorenstam in its first two years.

Matthew, who won the Women's British Open barely three months after giving birth to her second daughter, is involved in a fight for the Order of Merit crown with Sophie Gustafson of Sweden.

The Scot is trailing Gustafson (273,615 euros) by 22,344 euros and could become the No1 player in Europe if she wins on Saturday. Nordqvist is the highest ranked player in the tournament at No7.

Also in the field are the flamboyant American Christina Kim, a two-time winner on the LPGA Tour and Wie's best friend on the Tour, and South Korea's world No13 In Kyung Kim.
