Yankees swing tentative deal for Granderson

<div><p>Detroit star centerfielder Curtis Granderson is headed for the World Series champion New York Yankees as part of a tentative three-team, seven-player trade agreement.</p><p>The biggest move so far at Major League Baseball's winter meetings will ship Granderson from Detroit the Yankees, where he would bump Melky Cabrera to another fielding spot depending on the fates of Hideki Matsui and Johnny Damon.</p><p>Yankees general manager Brian Cashman met Tuesday with Arn Tellem, the agent for World Series Most Valuable Player Matsui, a free agent who reportedly has drawn interest from the Los Angeles Angels, and last week with Damon's agent.</p><p>Granderson, hit .249, smacked 30 home runs, stole 20 bases and drove in 71 runs last season for the Tigers.</p><p>The Yankees would reportedly send pitcher Ian Kennedy to Arizona and pitcher Phil Coke and outfielder Austin Jackson to the Tigers as part of the deal, which had yet to be finalized.</p><p>Two deals that were completed saw baseball's worst club in 2009, the Washington Nationals, sign a two-year deal worth six million dollars with 38-year-old catcher Ivan Rodriguez and Seattle ink a four-year contract for 36 million dollars with Chone Figgins.</p><p>Figgins, formerly with the Angels, figures to become the new third baseman for the Mariners and bat second in the Seattle order behind Japanese star Ichiro Suzuki.</p><p>St. Louis completed a one-year deal for 7.5 millikon dollars with pitcher Brad Penny.</p><img src="http://admatch-syndication.mochila.com/images/ad.gif?aid=65095564&bid=informcom" /></div><div id="copyright"><div>
